The new campaign for the Volvo XC60 and XC90 highlights the cars’ safety features, through the eyes of hard-working parents

This main campaign film–directed by Niclas Larsson via production house New Land for Forsman & Bodenfors Sweden–shows a couple struggling to keep up with their two, active toddlers. We follow them to the store to buy more diapers and we see them secure their home from sharp corners, steep stairways and other hazards. Towards the end of the film, the mother drives her Volvo on a country road, but in a moment of sudden distraction and exhaustion, her car starts to drift towards the middle of the road. The car is gently steered back again by Volvo’s safety system, and the film ends with the message: ”The car that looks after you like you look after others”.

Globally renowned Swedish actor Fares Fares plays the role of the father in the film. Fares, known for his roles in TV series Westworld and Chernobyl as well as Star Wars film Rogue One, is himself a father of a one-year-old son.

The role of the mother is played by Swedish actress Ana Gil de Melo Nascimento, known for her roles in numerous Swedish TV series and films, e.g. Berts dagbok and Jordskott. She’s currently starring in two major films as well as plays on The Royal Dramatic Theatre, “Dramaten”, in Stockholm, Sweden.

In the film’s background, U.S. singer-songwriter Pete Seeger performs his classic ”Hard times in the mill” from the 1956 record ”American Industrial Ballads”.

The “Family Safety” film was shot in Stockholm in July 2020, with all precautions taken with respect to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Sephora is exploring how beauty is changing, with ‘The Unlimited Power of Beauty’ campaign, as it unveils a new brand positioning

Wishing to underscore its commitment to diversity and inclusivity, Sephora is positioning itself as a brand for those who want to challenge the status quo. People who give their own interpretation of what it means to be beautiful.

The cinematic spot, which it claims is “deliberately different from previous years”, tells the story of a woman’s relationship with her refection throughout her life.

Starting from childhood, the ad covers her experiences with beauty throughout the ages, in its most doubting and most glorious state.

Enticingly intimate, the emotion in each exploration of beauty is conveyed as a personal evolution and growth at each stage of life, from her first childish experiments with makeup to mascara-drenched cheeks from first heartache tears. The spot is accompanied by the sultry cellist player, Kelsey Lu’s I’m Not in Love.

Accompanying the film, Sephora has commissioned Nadine Ijewere, a British photographer to develop a series of prints that carry the brand’s message while advertising its different departments – perfume, make-up, skincare.

Each of these 12 prints tells the story of the richness of beauty, regardless of age, gender, physique or style.

Beats “You Love Me”

“You Love Me,” directed by Melina Matsoukas, asks the world “You love Black culture, but do you love me?”

As America continues confronting racial injustice, it’s important to showcase the fight, but also the beauty and hope that Black people hold through it all.

Beats has partnered with Melina Matsoukas to create the moving film “You Love Me.” The film asks us all to imagine a world where we love Black people and respect them as much as we love their music, entertainment, athletic achievements, and fashion.

Voiced by Tobe Nwigwe and starring the likes of Naomi Osaka, Lil Baby, Bubba Wallace, and Janaya Future Khan, the piece takes us through powerful vignettes in Black culture, gripping portraits, and nostalgic imagery.

“Beats brought together an incredible group of people to center the conversation around the everyday beauty and resilience of the Black community,” says Bubba Wallace. “I joined this campaign because I want the next generation to always love themselves and their culture.”

The project is part of a greater brand initiative for Beats, where it will be focused on highlighting stories from and within the Black community.

This isn’t just a film — it’s a love letter to the Black experience.

Watch this commercial in private. You are going to cry. You will want to hug your partner, parents, grandparents, children, …forever

A new digital platform, Memories, has added a feature called Future message, which allows users to send video, text, or audio messages to loved ones at any future date. The Monkeys has integrated that into a story about a young man and his grandpa. It packs a mighty, mighty punch. (Well done to Good Oil director, Curtis Hill.)

Memories Group chief executive officer, Tom Ainsworth, sees Future Messages as the next stage in the evolution of communicating with our descendants, and a way to honor our own legacies.

“In our culture, the bond between generations is less visible despite huge advances in technology. Future Messages aims to use technology to celebrate those ties and gives us the chance to connect with our loved ones at special moments in their lives and on the dates important to them.

“As someone who has lost his father not too long ago, a message from Dad would have meant a lot to me. I’m thankful this is a gift I can give my kids.”

The Monkeys Melbourne chief creative officer, Ant Keogh, added, “Death is always an incredibly sensitive topic, and even more so with this current situation we’re facing. We had to get this story right and we believe Curtis captured the perfect tone for this film which introduces the Memories’ Future Messages product feature to market.”

The new work follows the launch commercial, also created by The Monkeys, which introduced the new platform as the better way to keep precious memories somewhere than in a shoebox.

Adobe has unveiled its ‘Fantastic Voyage’ ad spot for Photoshop, marking the first time the company has ever advertised Creative Cloud on TV in the UK

The campaign shows how Photoshop unleashes the power of imagination – for anyone – by celebrating the fantastic ways you can transform your world using only Photoshop and your imagination.

It features a woman on her daily commute who uses Photoshop to reimagine the world around her. She ultimately ends up transforming her every day, mundane ride into a fantastic voyage to the furthest corners of her imagination.

Digital video placements are currently live on paid social, with websites such as The Guardian, Vogue, Fader, NME, Dazed & Confused, Vice, Twitch, Tik Tok, Reddit and others following in the next couple of weeks.

The power of the imagination is very much the theme of our biggest ever advertising campaign for Photoshop in the UK.
