Why is my Pen Tool only making straight lines?

You’re probably just clicking instead of clicking and dragging. To make curves, click and drag to pull out direction handles.

How do I close a path to create a finished shape?

Hover over the first anchor point you created — when a small circle appears next to the cursor, click to close the shape.

Press Esc or select another tool like the Selection Tool (V). Then reselect the Pen Tool when ready to begin a new path.

Make sure you're using the Direct Selection Tool (A). Also, ensure that the anchor point is part of a curve, not a corner.
