Is DaVinci Resolve really free?

Yes. The free version has no watermarks, no trial period, and no project length limits. It supports up to 4K UHD at 60fps and includes full editing, color grading, VFX, and audio tools. Blackmagic funds the software through hardware sales.

Is DaVinci Resolve good for beginners?

Absolutely. While it has a steeper learning curve than basic editors like iMovie or CapCut, the payoff is massive. The Cut page is specifically designed for beginners and quick projects, and the skills you learn transfer directly to professional workflows. Think of it as learning to drive a sports car instead of a golf cart; it takes a bit more practice, but the capabilities are incomparable.

What is the difference between DaVinci Resolve and DaVinci Resolve Studio?

The free version covers about 90% of the software's functionality. Studio ($295, one-time payment) adds the DaVinci Neural Engine for AI tools, temporal and spatial noise reduction, HDR grading with Dolby Vision, multi-GPU support, 10-bit codec support, and resolution output beyond 4K.

Can DaVinci Resolve run on my computer?

Minimum specs: 16 GB RAM, a GPU with 2 GB VRAM, and SSD storage. For comfortable 4K editing, aim for 32 GB RAM and a GPU with 8 GB+ VRAM. Resolve runs on Windows 10/11, macOS 13+, and select Linux distributions.

How does DaVinci Resolve compare to Premiere Pro?

Resolve offers similar (or superior) editing capabilities for free, with industry-leading color grading tools that Premiere Pro simply can't match. Premiere Pro requires a monthly subscription ($22.99/month) but integrates tightly with the Adobe ecosystem (After Effects, Photoshop, Audition). Can I use DaVinci Resolve for YouTube videos?

Yes, and many top YouTubers already do. The Deliver page includes presets optimized for YouTube, and you can export in H.264 or H.265 at up to 4K. Resolve 21 even adds direct YouTube uploads from the export page.

Does DaVinci Resolve support plugins and templates?

Yes. Resolve supports OFX plugins, Fusion templates, LUTs, and pre-rendered assets like MOV transition overlays. You can find DaVinci Resolve-compatible templates, LUTs, and title packs at Pixflow (https://pixflow.net/video-templates/davinci-resolve/) and other creative marketplaces.
