What is AI sound design?

AI sound design is the use of generative AI tools to create, edit, or enhance audio for video projects. It includes text-to-sound-effect generation, video-to-audio foley generation, and AI-assisted audio cleanup, combined with traditional editing skills like layering and mixing.

How do AI sound effect generators work?

They use models trained on large labeled audio datasets. The model learns how text descriptions map to sound characteristics, then synthesizes a new waveform from your prompt. Most tools return several variations per prompt in a few seconds.

Are AI-generated sound effects copyrighted?

In most jurisdictions, output generated entirely by AI can't be copyrighted by the user. You can typically use the sounds under the platform's license, but you may not own them exclusively. Always check the specific tool's terms for commercial use.

Can I use AI sound effects in YouTube videos and client work?

Usually yes, if your plan allows it. Paid plans on tools like ElevenLabs grant royalty-free commercial use, and Adobe Firefly is designed to be commercially safe. Free tiers often require attribution, so check before you publish.

What is the best AI sound effects generator for video editing?

For quick text-to-SFX one-shots, ElevenLabs. For timing control inside Adobe workflows, Firefly. For ambience, Stable Audio. For automatic sync to footage inside Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve, Mirelo AI. Most editors end up combining two of these with a licensed SFX library.

Do AI sound generators work inside Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve?

Some do. Mirelo AI offers native plugins for both editors that generate synced sound from your timeline footage. For other tools, you generate and download WAV files, then import them like any other audio asset.
